Stand-up comedian Chris McCausland is partnered with the much-loved Dianne Buswell. Chris’s quick wit and Dianne’s vibrant personality could make this pairing a fan favourite. While Chris faces the challenge of learning the routines, the duo’s chemistry is likely to bring plenty of laughs and entertainment.
Chris McCausland is a comedian, who many people will recognise from the likes of Have I Got News for You, Would I Lie to You?, QI, The Last Leg and 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.
McCausland, who became completely blind at the age of 22 as a result of the hereditary condition retinitis pigmentosa, is the first blind contestant to take part in Strictly.
Speaking about joining the Strictly line-up, McCausland said: “If anybody out there is thinking, ‘How the hell is he going to do that?’ then rest assured that I am thinking exactly the same thing. I don’t dance, I haven’t danced, I can’t dance, I can’t see the dancing I will have to do. What can possibly go wrong? OK, don’t answer that!”
Chris McCausland is the first blind contestant to take part in Strictly. This hasn’t held him back tackling a fun Cha Cha Cha in week one! Dianne and Chris had the crowd Twisting and Shouting with a standing ovation. Anton said it was “one of the most extraordinary things I’ve ever seen in my entire life, just brilliant”.
Dianne and Chris enjoyed a standing ovation as they Jived into Movie Week to Wayne’s World. Shirley said “unbelievable musicality” and Anton called the performance “marvellous and joyous”. A total of 30 points sees their highest score yet. Party On!
Dianne and Chris Waltzed into week 5 with an emotional Liverpool tribute to You’ll Never Walk Alone. Anton said “needs more work on top but heavenly down below”. Craig loved the gorgeous rise and fall and Shirley and Motsi were moved by the performance. A fabulous 35, their highest score yet.
Dianne was unrecognisable without her iconic red hair during Icons week. Dianne and Chris’ Tango had us Rocking and Rolling All Night. All judges agreed it was a huge improvement on last week, with Anton calling their performance “a joy to watch”.

Dianne started Ballroom dancing at age four and has accrued plenty of titles during her dancing career. Along with her brother, Andrew Buswell, she was an Adult New Vogue WA Champion in 2008 and 2010. She toured with hit show, ‘Burn the Floor’ in 2011 and also appeared on ‘So You Think You Can Dance Australia.’ In 2015 she starred in Australia’s version of Strictly, ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and landed the role in the UK show in 2017. Plus, she’s also an Australian Open Champion and four-time Amateur Australian Open Finalist. And did we mention that she’s starred in the musicals, ‘Legally Blonde’ and ‘Rock of Ages’ and performed with Strictly pro dancer, Giovanni Pernice, in his world tour?

Dianne and Bobby won our hearts throughout the competition and we were delighted to see them in the final. The judges pick was their Samba from Movie week as they let their Young Hearts Run Free. The judges saw vast improvement and awarded them an impressive 39. Dianne and Bobby’s Showdance was a spectacular La La Land medley. Another impressive performance from the couple. Finally their emotional Couple’s Choice had us reaching for the tissues. Heartfelt and beautiful, they dance from the heart and brought their all to the final.
Has Dianne ever won Strictly?
Sadly not, although Dianne made it all the way to the final with boyfriend Joe Sugg in 2018 and EastEnders actor Bobby Brazier in 2023.
